Aquilastar's Kenya EV Plant Progresses, Geothermal Integration in Talks

Aquilastar's electric vehicle (EV) plant in Olkaria is making steady progress, with foundations being poured and steel frames being lifted into place. Meanwhile, negotiations are underway to integrate geothermal power into the plant's energy mix, marking a significant step towards sustainable EV production in Kenya.

The EV plant is currently in the construction phase, with visible activity on the site. This is in contrast to the Microsoft-G42 data center project in the same area, which has not yet begun construction despite initial announcements. If Aquilastar's project is successful, it will be one of the few EV plants worldwide directly powered by baseload renewable energy, in this case, geothermal power from Kenya's Olkaria region.

The plant's progress is notable as it offers a tangible demonstration of geothermal-powered development, unlike the less visible data center project. Officials maintain that the data center project is still on track, but financing details and permits are yet to be finalized. The EV plant, once operational, will provide a functioning assembly line that Kenyans can see and understand, making a more persuasive case for renewable energy and local production.

Aquilastar's EV plant in Olkaria is nearing completion, with negotiations for geothermal power supply underway. This project, if successful, will showcase Kenya's geothermal potential and contribute to the country's growing EV industry. Meanwhile, the status of the Microsoft-G42 data center project remains uncertain, with no visible progress on the ground despite assurances from officials.
