Archbishop Visits Flood-Hit Kerrville, Offers Support as Community Waits for Missing Girls

Following catastrophic flooding in Kerrville, Texas, Archbishop Gustavo García-Siller of San Antonio visited the town to offer prayers and support. The historic floods have left 20 girls from Camp Mystic missing, with families desperately awaiting news. The archbishop's visit comes as the community grapples with the aftermath, reminiscent of the Uvalde shooting's impact.

Archbishop García-Siller began his visit by meeting with families affected by the flooding. He spoke with a mother whose 9-year-old daughter was among the missing from Camp Mystic. The archbishop emphasized the importance of being present and attentive to the needs of those suffering, encouraging the faithful to empathize and pray for those who lost homes and family members.

He will celebrate Mass at Notre Dame Church on July 6 to accompany and support the community. The church, along with three others, has been designated as a center for refuge and care. Catholic Charities has been providing essential supplies such as food, clothes, hygiene articles, water, and cots to the affected families.

Despite no specific organization being mentioned as assisting the victims or the search for the missing girls, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has been activated to aid in response efforts following a disaster declaration signed by the US President.

Archbishop García-Siller's visit to Kerrville underscores the long-lasting impact of the flooding on the community. He praised those who want to help and urged people not to be indifferent to such tragedies. As the search for the missing girls continues and families rebuild their lives, the community finds solace and support in the presence of their archbishop and the aid provided by organizations like Catholic Charities.
