Aschaffenburg Retains 'Bicycle-Friendly Municipality' Title Until 2031

Aschaffenburg has been recognised for its commitment to cycling, retaining the 'Bicycle-Friendly Municipality' title until 2031. The city celebrated its 10th anniversary of promoting bicycle traffic with an image film and a visit from 35 Bavarian experts.

The AGFK (Working Group on Bicycle-Friendly Municipalities in Bavaria) awarded Aschaffenburg the title in July 2025, following an excursion to the city. Holger Schmidt, the deputy managing director of the AGFK, presented the certificate to Mayor Herzing during the event. The city has invested heavily in cycle gear infrastructure, completing several construction projects to improve its urban cycle route network. This includes expanding the Main cycle path and constructing a cycle street in the Auweg. Aschaffenburg allocates around 1 million euros annually for bicycle traffic promotion measures, demonstrating its dedication to sustainable transport.

To mark the 10th anniversary of its bicycle traffic concept, Aschaffenburg created an image film. Available at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zvd64ScXmiM, it showcases the city's commitment to cycling and its progress over the decade.

Aschaffenburg's dedication to cycling has been rewarded with the 'Bicycle-Friendly Municipality' title until 2031. The city's continuous investment in cycle gear infrastructure and promotion, along with its transparent approach through annual reports and the Bicycle Forum, has made it a model for other Bavarian municipalities.
