Copa Airlines to Establish Direct Flight from Los Cabos to Colombia, Doing So via Panama

The skies over Los Cabos are set to change with the introduction of a new direct flight between Panama City and the popular Mexican destination, operated by Copa Airlines. Scheduled to commence on December 4, 2025, this new route marks a significant milestone as it represents the first direct air connection from Latin America to Los Cabos, linking the destination to Copa's "Hub of the Americas" in Panama.

This new route is projected to bring over 25,000 Latin American tourists annually to Los Cabos, generating economic spillover exceeding 25 million dollars per year for the region. The impact benefits a wide range of sectors including hotels, restaurants, transportation, and tour operators—supporting the entire tourism value chain.

By providing convenient access for travelers from Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, Chile, Peru, Ecuador, and other key Latin American markets, the route expands Mexico's tourism catchment and enhances international connectivity. This development also strengthens Los Cabos' position as an international tourist hub and contributes to broader economic growth by increasing employment opportunities and foreign exchange earnings linked to tourism.

Maribel Collins, head of the Baja California Sur Secretariat of Tourism and Economy, made the above statements, emphasizing the route's potential to significantly boost tourism and economic development in Mexico, specifically in Baja California Sur. The new flight is anticipated to attract more than 25,000 tourists annually from Central and South America, a testament to the growing preference these countries have for sun and beach destinations.

The new route is considered a crucial step towards diversifying and strengthening international tourism in Mexico. In 2024, more than 7,400 Colombians are expected to choose Los Cabos as their destination, a number that is likely to increase significantly with the introduction of this new flight. The new direct route is expected to contribute significantly to the economic development of Los Cabos and its region, boosting not only visitor arrivals but also the overall economy.
