Cottbus' Oberkirche Hosts 'CircleMaster' Exhibition Challenging Perceptions of Self-Help
Cottbus's Oberkirche is currently hosting a travelling exhibition, 'CircleMaster - self-made', aiming to change perceptions about self-help groups. The exhibition, open until the end of October, is free and welcomes visitors of all ages and backgrounds.
The exhibition, initiated by Michaela Sagert in 2019 with other partners, showcases stories of people overcoming illnesses through self-help. It is part of a larger initiative to engage younger people in self-help groups.
Sandra Müller, coordinator of the self-help contact point REKIS in Cottbus, explained that the exhibition aims to inspire visitors with diverse biographies. She expressed her wish for self-help to be more visible and for people to share their stories openly. The exhibition is expected to provide courage, inspiration, and confidence, reassuring visitors that they are not alone in their struggles.
The 'CircleMaster' term is used to evoke positive thoughts and represent mastering one's own life in self-help groups. The exhibition, which has been traveling since 2022, will remain in the Oberkirche until the end of October before moving on to other locations. Various self-help groups, including initiatives for Parkinson's, prostate cancer, and grief processing, were present at the opening, demonstrating the wide range of support available.
