Düsseldorf's Nordfriedhof Celebrates 10th All Saints' Day Event
Düsseldorf's Nordfriedhof cemetery hosts its annual All Saints' Day event, offering a mix of spiritual, cultural, and historical activities. This year marks the tenth anniversary of the city-organised celebration.
The day begins with an ecumenical service, followed by an organ concert and a powerful performance by a gospel choir. A lecture delves into the history and significance of the day. Children can participate in a scavenger hunt, while everyone enjoys a jazz concert in the evening.
Visitors can avail a shuttle service with bicycle rickshaws from 10:00 to 17:00, especially helpful for older cemetery visitors. A 'Grabsegen to go' offers prayers, suggestions for memorial design, holy water, and information cards. Information stands are set up from 11:00 to 18:00, providing details on cemetery and funeral topics.
The event features the illumination of trees, monuments, and buildings using real candles. Guided tours of the historic part of the cemetery begin at 17:30, showcasing artistically designed graves and famous personalities. The illumination of the entrance area and chapel starts at 17:15, with selected monuments lit until 20:30, and the entire display continuing until 22:00.
The event is made possible through private and commercial donations, with the city recommending the use of public transportation due to limited parking. This year's program promises a blend of spirituality, culture, history, and family-friendly activities, inviting all to reflect and remember.
