Enjoyable Activities to Engage in during Memorial Day Weekend in 925 Area

Prepare for an action-packed Memorial Day weekend in the 925 area, with a plethora of family-friendly events, artistic endeavors, and even a late-night basketball tournament. From Concord to Livermore, your summer getaway is right at your doorstep.

1. Soar with Giant Kites at San Ramon's Art & Wind Festival

Mark your calendars for Sunday and Monday, May 25-26, as San Ramon Central Park transforms into a canvas of colorful kites, art exhibitions, and live entertainment. Since its inception, the festival has been free to attend, and this year is no exception. Along with the expansive kites, attendees can explore over 100 artisan booths, food trucks, and a stage hosting multiple performances. For the first time, a commemorative field of flags and a children's helicopter landing will grace the event. Due to limited parking, free shuttles from Iron Horse Middle School will facilitate smooth transportation.

2. Delight the Kids at Concord's Bay Area KidFest

From May 24 to May 26, Toyota Pavilion in Concord hosts Bay Area KidFest, featuring three days of nonstop activities. Enjoy bounce houses, BMX stunt shows, STEM zones, and live music. Parents can unwind in the shaded food court, which offers local barbecue and sweet treats like funnel cakes. For those who bring canned food donations for the Food Bank, a $1 discount on admission is available.

3. Sip, Groove, or Both in Livermore Wine Country

Customize your weekend experience in Livermore Wine Country by picking your preferred vibe:

  • White Party at Wente Vineyards: On Sunday, May 25, the Wente Vineyards will host a white-themed party from 1 to 5 p.m., accompanied by DJ sets and estate chardonnay. Tickets are required for entry.
  • Live at Longevity Wines: On the same day, Longevity Wines will offer a free sax-and-soul live set inside an air-conditioned barrel room, along with Indian bites from the Ampuli food truck placed outside. Reservations are encouraged.

Regardless of your choice, Livermore Valley wineries will roll out lawn games, rosé flights, and picnic specials throughout the weekend. Designate a driver or book a shuttle to ensure a safe trip.

4. Shop, Snack, and Dance in Lafayette's Art Market in the Parklet

On Sunday, May 25, the First Street parklet in downtown Lafayette becomes a mini-street fair featuring local crafts, lawn games, food trucks, and an afternoon line-dance lesson. After engaging in the festivities, take a short stroll to the Lafayette Reservoir for a peaceful walk.

5. Cheer (or Play) at "Memorial Day Mayhem" Youth Hoops, Walnut Creek

More than 80 boys' and girls' AAU teams from across Northern California will compete in a two-day tournament at local gym sites, with games open to spectators. Team registration is still open if the family sports enthusiast would like to join the fun.

Saturday is anticipated to be the warmest and sunniest day, with temperatures reaching upper-70s to low-80s, while Sunday and Monday will see onshore breezes return. Don't forget to pack layers and sunscreen for your weekend outings.

As you indulge in the upcoming festivities, remember to take a moment to honor Memorial Day with a local ceremony, if possible.
