The city of Hamburg is set to host the International Summer Festival, a vibrant annual event showcasing diverse performances in dance, theatre, music, and more. This year's edition, themed "Room to Dream", will take place from August 6 to 24, with a lineup that promises an unforgettable cultural experience.

Kicking off the festival on August 6 is Marlene Monteiro Freitas, who will present the Germany premiere of her dance piece "Nôt" at the opening ceremony. The festival will also welcome the return of Brazilian feminist performer Carolina Bianchi, who will perform "The Cadela Força Trilogy: Chapter II - The Brotherhood".

Oona Doherty will present her new work "Specky Clark - A Series of Theatrical Images", occupying six houses of the Kunstmeile with a performance parcours for a whole day. The audience can also look forward to Nesterval's theater installation "Das alte Dorf", which will make the audience an active participant in a story about love, violence, and racism.

Notable performances include Austrian choreographer and performer Florentina Holzinger's latest work "A Year Without Summer", and French acting legend Isabelle Huppert serving as the narrator for "Rufus Wainwright's Dream Requiem". US musician Rufus Wainwright will also perform at the Elbphilharmonie as part of the diverse music program.

The festival will feature 31 concerts, readings, climate workshops for children, and an invitingly designed Festival Avant-garden for relaxation. A highlight is Belgian theater maker Miet Warlop's creation, "Inhale Delirium Exhale", which will involve 3,000 meters of French fashion house Hermès fabric.

US choreographer Ogemdi Ude will present "Major" at the festival, and veteran Christoph Marthaler will observe a group of people seeking retreat from the world in "Der Gipfel". The festival will also feature three premieres and 13 Germany premieres.

András Siebold has been the artistic director of the summer festival since 2013, and this year's event promises to be a testament to his vision and dedication. The festival will take place on the Kampnagel grounds and at many other locations like the Oberhafen, Elbphilharmonie, and the houses of the Kunstmeile, making it an exciting journey through the cultural heart of Hamburg.

While specific details about the 2022 festival cannot be provided due to limited available information, it is clear that the International Summer Festival at Kampnagel in Hamburg is a must-visit for art and culture enthusiasts. Stay tuned for more updates as the festival approaches!
