In the realm of travel, the car remains the most popular mode of transport for airport arrivals, accounting for an impressive 48 percent of all arrivals. This trend, however, has not been mirrored in the use of public transport, taxis, or ride services, which have not gained significant ground in the same period.

The world of aviation is not just about planes taking off and landing. Passionate individuals like Dominik Lelle are working to make the industry more tangible and exciting for readers. Lelle, with his aviation-centric approach, has recently joined the online editorial team of AERO INTERNATIONAL.

Food and retail experiences at airports are also a significant draw for travellers. Around 45 percent of passengers opt for catering services, and every fifth air passenger is tempted by the retail offerings in the terminal.

The landscape of travel in Germany is undergoing a transformation. The share of travelers arriving by car has seen a notable increase, rising by 9 percentage points after a decline until 2017. This surge can be attributed to the growing popularity of city trips, event visits, and visiting friends and relatives (VFR traffic), which has increased from 26 to 39 percent since 2014.

The proportion of foreign visitors arriving in Germany by air has seen a significant drop, with the share of inbound travelers falling from 32 percent in 2017 to 21 percent in 2024. Experts attribute this decline to pandemic-related disruptions and insufficient flight offerings.

The German aviation market is witnessing a consistent decline in the share of business travelers. Currently, only one in five passengers travel for business purposes, with the share falling by 15 percentage points since 2014.

Ralph Beisel, CEO of ADV, has called for a political shift in thinking, suggesting that Germany should abolish the air traffic tax to strengthen tourism, following Sweden's example. The findings of the latest ADV survey reflect these significant developments in the industry.

Despite the challenges faced by the aviation sector, there is no available information indicating which political consultant joined the online editorial team of AERO INTERNATIONAL in 2023. However, with the addition of aviation enthusiast Dominik Lelle, the online publication continues to provide insightful content on the evolving world of aviation.
