Lakeland Airport Introduces Free Grass Overflow Lot, Adjusts Parking Fees
Lakeland Linder International Airport is set to introduce a grass overflow lot, offering free parking to its users. This comes as the airport prepares for growth, with plans to expand its terminal and build a parallel runway. The airport, which currently serves nine destinations with Avelo Airlines, is also adjusting its parking fees, effective October 13.
Starting October 13, the airport will charge $9 per day for parking, with the first four hours being free. This change aims to manage the increasing passenger numbers, which peak during the holiday season, reaching over 12,000 passengers per month. The airport has seen a significant economic impact, growing from $547 million in 2019 to over $1.5 billion today.
To accommodate this growth, the airport is planning a major expansion. This includes constructing a parallel runway, with construction set to begin in 2025 and completion expected by 2027. The new runway will join the existing one, allowing for increased aircraft movements and improved safety.
The grass overflow lot, due to open soon, will provide a free parking option for airport users. The new parking fees and expansion plans reflect the airport's commitment to managing growth and improving services. The economic impact of the airport continues to rise, highlighting its importance to the local area.
