Lego taps into Mexican culture for its new Day of the Dead-themed collection
Lego has launched a new set based on Mexico's Day of the Dead, a holiday that commemorates the departed and dates back to pre-Hispanic times. The set, available for purchase online on the Lego website, is an amazing and affordable ornament for Lego collectors, according to The Informador newspaper.
The Lego Day of the Dead collection features elements representative of Mexican observances, such as marigolds, papel picado, and candles. The set includes models of food and drink, including a chicken leg and pan de muerto, traditional items on the Day of the Dead altar.
The new edition, developed and published by the Lego Group, comprises 231 pieces and measures approximately 9 cm in height, 8 cm in width, and 10 cm in depth. The set is comprised of two models: the Lego Skull and the Lego Altar.
The Lego Skull has large open eyes, a small triangular nose, and more white around its teeth, as described by Bricks Up. On the other hand, the Lego Altar showcases a sugar skull on one side and an altar to the dead on the other.
The set uses a range of seasonal colours, and the Lego Skull even includes flowers that can be placed on studs on the brick-built skull. Reports about the set come from various sources, including El Universal, Bricks Up, and La Prensa.
The official price of the Day of the Dead collection is 349 pesos in Mexico and US $19.99 in the United States. The Day of the Dead holidays occur on Nov. 1 and Nov. 2.
