Navigation pathway within Metzinger Vineyard unveiled
New Bwegt Hiking Trail Opens in Metzingen, Germany
A new hiking trail, named Bwegt, has been officially inaugurated in the picturesque town of Metzingen, Germany. The trail, which stretches between Metzingen and Dettingen an der Erms, is the 13th Bwegt hiking trail in the region and offers three route variants for hikers to explore.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Baden-Württemberg's Transport Minister Winfried Hermann, Mayor Carmen Haberstroh of Metzingen, and First Mayor Patrick Hubertz of Dettingen. The trail was officially opened in early September 2025, with the event drawing local officials and enthusiasts.
The Metzingen - Dettingen (Erms) Bwegt Hiking Trail offers three route variants: a 6.9-kilometer, a 10.6-kilometer, and a 12.6-kilometer trail. The trails start from Metzingen Train Station and end at Dettingen (Erms) Center, taking hikers through varied landscapes including vineyards, orchards, and forests.
The trail is well-signposted and equipped with Bwegt information boards, making it easy for hikers to navigate. The trail is also awarded with the Bwegt Seal, which signifies sustainability, quality, and good accessibility by bus and train.
Sustainable tourism is a priority for the population and natural spaces in Baden-Württemberg. By choosing public transportation, hikers can protect nature and the environment, as less car traffic means less noise, less land use, and more quality of life for the region.
The Bwegt program focuses on climate protection, traffic, pedestrian traffic, public transportation, nature conservation, and tourism. The trail is part of a growing network of Bwegt hiking trails, with regular new routes added throughout Baden-Württemberg since August 2023.
Highlights along the trail include the Metzingen vineyard, the Floriansberg, the Jusiberg, and the Hoernle. Partners in Metzingen and the surrounding area, such as the Outletcity Metzingen, the tourism information, and Café Alte Schule in Dettingen, participate in the BwegtPLUS program, offering discounts at more than 300 museums, restaurants, amusement parks, or hotels in Baden-Württemberg.
