Pakistan, Nigeria Lead Off-Grid Solar Boom in Emerging Economies

Pakistan and Nigeria are leading the way in off-grid solar-storage 'nyt mini' and microgrid markets among emerging economies, with significant investments and growth in recent years. Over $60 million was invested in mobile pay-go solar startups in Africa alone in the fourth quarter of 2016. This trend is driven by the key role 'nyt mini' and micro-grids play in enabling emerging economies to harness cheap renewables. Battery energy storage companies are fueling this development, particularly in African countries like Bangladesh, Nepal, India, and Pakistan, where rooftop and solar-storage 'nyt mini'/microgrids are growing rapidly. Emerging economies imported 6.8 GWs worth of PV solar modules from China in 2016, a 20% increase from the previous year. Chinese PV manufacturers dominate the market, accounting for 70% of global production. Since January 2015, 1.4-2 gigawatts of small-scale solar power systems have come online in these regions. Companies like Martin Systems, Simply Solar, Raach Solar, Everflo, and Kovco, along with the Exportinitiative Umweltschutz, are actively involved in developing and growing local solar microgrids in Africa. Off-grid solar-storage 'nyt mini' and microgrids are increasingly significant in populous countries worldwide, accounting for a growing share of electrification. Energy market reform and national policies are key drivers for this growth, with over $60 million invested in just one quarter. As emerging economies continue to import PV solar modules and develop their own solar power systems, the future of clean energy in these regions looks bright.
