Pursuing vineyard entrepreneurship at the age of 40... in France

In the picturesque vineyards of the Centre-Loire region, a Canadian winemaker named Guillaume Myette is crafting wines that truly reflect the region's unique terroir.

Myette, who grew up in Bas-Saint-Laurent, Quebec, discovered his passion for winemaking during his studies in Burgundy, France. His love affair with Pinot Noir was ignited, and he worked alongside pioneers of organic farming like Luc Pavelot and Pierrick Boulay.

At the tender age of 15, Myette moved to France, leaving Montreal behind. He pursued a degree in geography with dreams of teaching the subject back home. However, a twist of fate led him to the world of wine.

In the restaurant industry, he discovered the art of wine tasting and beer brewing, which eventually led him to enroll in sommelier studies at the Institut de tourisme et d'hôtellerie du Québec. Afterwards, he chose a training program in viticulture and oenology in Beaune, Burgundy, France.

Myette's journey brought him to the Centre-Loire region, where he stumbled upon the Domaine de la Chasseigne. Today, he produces wine here, specifically in the Coteaux du Giennois.

The Domaine de la Chasseigne, founded by Michel Girault, boasts three hectares of organic farming. Myette serves a Sauvignon Blanc and two red wines based on Pinot Noir and Gamay.

The Les Camus 2023 cuvée of Domaine de la Chasseigne is a Sauvignon Blanc that offers a lot of body in the mouth, a nice citrus tension, and a hint of mint. The Champs Galants 2023 cuvée, mostly Gamay, presents aromas of violet, black fruit, and spices. The Montbenoit 2023 cuvée, with 40% Gamay, has a juicy attack with elegant and silky tannins.

These three cuvées are available in cases of six through the Pirates agency, thanks to the efforts of Joris Gutierrez Garcia, named Best Sommelier of the Americas in 2025.

Myette's aspiration is for his wines to express the terroir he loves in the Centre-Loire. His journey from Quebec to France and back again serves as a testament to the power of passion and the allure of the vine.
