Regensburg Fights Heat with New Climate Manager and Cooling Initiatives
Regensburg is preparing to tackle high temperatures, with a new climate resilience manager, Carina-Denise Lemke, leading the charge since June 2025. As temperatures rise, the city encourages residents to stay hydrated, seek shade, and use sun protection.
Lemke is developing an interactive map to help residents find cool places and facilities, such as parks, green spaces, and public baths, to beat the weather today. She advises everyone, especially vulnerable groups like older people, pregnant women, and children, to dress lightly and avoid physical exertion during the day.
Regensburg offers five drinking fountains, with more on the way, and participates in the 'Refill Deutschland' initiative, providing free water refills. However, there's no information on non-commercial organizations offering free drinking water. Lemke urges everyone to drink water regularly, even if they don't feel thirsty, and to avoid alcohol, coffee, black tea, and very cold drinks in hot temperatures. She also suggests ventilating and shading living and working spaces during the day and night.
Regensburg is taking steps to ensure residents stay cool and hydrated during hot temperatures. With Lemke's guidance, the city is expanding access to cool spaces, drinking water, and promoting responsible behaviour. Residents are encouraged to stay informed and follow these guidelines to protect their health and comfort.
