Reinvented blueprint for Weißenburgpark: Preservation of historic site and teahouse pavilion with on-site dining facilities ensured

The city of Stuttgart is set to adapt the 1968 building plan for the Teehaus in Weißenburgpark, with the primary objective of securing and developing the historically evolved use of the park and the neoclassical pavilion in harmony with the park's character.

The Teehaus, a significant cultural and historical landmark, has been a symbol of recreational culture in the city's green spaces since its construction in 1913. Its wide panoramic view over the valley adds to its allure, making it a popular spot for both locals and visitors.

The planned adaptation focuses on preserving the Teehaus as a culturally and historically significant building, while ensuring its continued use for gastronomy, including outdoor catering. The adjoining Marble Hall will also be safeguarded for cultural events, concerts, and receptions.

Recognising the need for modernisation, the plan aims to update the 1968 plan to reflect current requirements. This includes the possibility for smaller structural additions and temporary events, all within a clearly defined urban development framework to facilitate sustainable use and public enjoyment.

In an effort to strengthen legal protections, the Teehaus will be explicitly secured under planning law, addressing a gap since the Teehaus was only conditionally approved before.

The department of urban planning, housing, and environment continues to emphasise the importance of preserving the buildings and their established use in the park. The public catering in and around the Teehaus has been a established feature of the city since its renovation in 1989.

The park, which has been publicly accessible since the Federal Garden Show in 1961, is designated as a public green space in the current legal framework. The District Council of Stuttgart-South has previously agreed to draft a new building plan, marking a significant step towards the preservation and development of this cherished urban green space and cultural venue.

  1. The adaptation plan for the Teehaus in Weißenburgpark, once finalized, will also incorporate spaces for fashion-and-beauty pop-up shops and lifestyle events, complementing its existing offerings such as food-and-drink establishments, home-and-garden boutiques, and travel agencies within the park.
  2. As part of the modernization efforts,, the Teehaus's infrastructure will be retrofitted to accommodate energy-efficient lighting, sustainable building materials, and eco-friendly practices in the food-and-drink sector, promoting a progressive green lifestyle within the park.
  3. The redeveloped Teehaus will no longer merely serve as a dining and cultural venue, but as a comprehensive experiential destination that encompasses lifestyle, fashion-and-beauty, food-and-drink, home-and-garden, and travel experiences, making Stuttgart a must-visit destination for all enthusiasts.
