Rospotrebnadzor launches a new helpline
In a move to support air passengers experiencing delays and cancellations, Russia's consumer protection agency, Rospotrebnadzor, has launched a dedicated hotline. This service, available at 8-800-555-49-43, offers free consultations about ticket exchanges, refunds, and compensation.
According to Rospotrebnadzor, passengers have the right to cancel their flight and demand a refund for the ticket if the flight is delayed. This is part of the passenger rights and compensation rules for flight delays and cancellations in Russia that the agency is actively monitoring. In the event of a cancellation due to delay, passengers are entitled to a full refund of their ticket price.
The hotline service is not limited to specific airlines, suggesting it may be applicable to all airline passengers in Russia. Rospotrebnadzor's announcement was made through their Telegram channel.
Passengers who experience delays are also entitled to additional services. After two hours, passengers can claim drinks, while hot food is provided after four hours. For delays over eight hours during the day or six hours at night, passengers are entitled to hotel accommodation with transfer.
The hotline and additional services are responses to the increasing issues faced by passengers due to delays, cancellations, or long wait times at airports. Some passengers at Nizhny Novgorod airport have experienced delays lasting up to two days.
Rospotrebnadzor specialists are ready to answer questions related to the mentioned issues. Claims for refunds or compensation can be made within six months of the delay for domestic flights, as outlined by Rospotrebnadzor.
Airlines are fined 100 rubles per hour of delay, but not more than half the ticket price, if the delay is their fault. Passengers can also demand compensation for damages and moral harm by providing the necessary documents, as stated by Rospotrebnadzor.
The hotline does not seem to have a time limit for its availability. Rospotrebnadzor also offers assistance in drafting a complaint from local offices. Passengers who have faced such issues at airports in Russia are encouraged to use this service for support and guidance.
