Unearthing Archaeological Wonders: Latest Findings Unveiled at the Bowers Museum's Terracotta Warriors Exhibition
The Bowers Museum, located in Santa Ana, California, is not only offering support to the community during the pandemic but also preparing for an exciting exhibition in 2025. The museum is currently providing free meals, groceries, and art kits to those in need, reflecting its commitment to community service.
In 2008, the Bowers Museum introduced the Terracotta Warriors in a premier exhibit that toured museums across the United States. Fast-forward to 2025, and the Terracotta Warriors are returning to the Bowers Museum from May 24 to October 19. This time, the exhibition, titled 'World of the Terracotta Warriors: New Discoveries', will showcase more than 110 newly uncovered treasures, including terracotta warriors, chariots, and horses, providing a glimpse into living history.
Anne Shih, President of the Bowers Museum Board of Trustees, has collaborated with Dr. Sean O'Harrow and Dr. Tianlong Jiao to create a unique premier museum experience. Visitors can expect an enlightening series of lectures accompanying the exhibition, such as one by Dr. Min Li, a Professor of East Asian Archeology at UCLA, titled 'From Shimao to the Qui Empire: Tracing Political Evolution Through Shaanxi's Archeological Discoveries'.
The exhibit traverses millennia, dating from the earliest walled cities of the Shimao to the Terracotta Warriors of the Qin Dynasty. Recent archaeological finds from Shaanxi Province have significantly deepened understanding of China's political and artistic achievements before and during the Qin Dynasty. Key discoveries include over 300 tombs per square kilometer uncovered during the construction of an airport museum in Xi’an, revealing rich burial sites from the Northern Zhou Dynasty, State of Qin during the Warring States period (475-221 BC), and the Han Dynasty.
The 'New Discoveries' exhibit at the Bowers Museum will include these fascinating finds, offering insight into the complex political structures and aristocratic networks, advanced artistry and craftsmanship, military innovations, and evolving cultural and diplomatic interactions of the period.
For those interested in a more intimate experience, Bowers Chief Curator Dr. Tianlong Jiao offers exclusive after-hours exhibit tours on August 8, September 6, and October 18. Additionally, the interactive 'Magic at the Bowers Game Night' takes place on August 15 and September 15.
Ticket information, details about lectures, tours, and offerings can be found on the Bowers Museum website (bowers.org). The museum has also published beautifully photographed catalogs of the art objects in the exhibits, which can be accessed and downloaded from the Bowers Museum website.
In a heartwarming gesture, the Bowers Museum is offering free admission to all veterans from November 11, 2020, to January 10, 2021, for a temporary display honouring local hero Charles Shaw and the Montford Point Marines.
