Vietnam Boosts Tourism with Green Focus and Ambitious Growth Targets
Vietnam is boosting its tourism sector with a focus on sustainability and growth. The Viet Nam Tourism Association has launched the VITA GREEN certification, aiming to make destinations, accommodations, and tour operators greener. The government has set an ambitious GDP growth target of 8.3-8.5 percent for 2025, with high hopes for tourism.
The country is attracting more visitors by targeting independent travellers and welcoming large groups for familiarisation trips. So far, 40 enterprises have been certified under the VITA GREEN standards, with a target to certify 100 by the end of the year. The association is also focusing on the 12 key markets granted visa-free access.
In the first four months of 2025, Vietnam attracted 11 million visitors, a 21 percent increase. The government has waived visas for 12 emerging markets to support this growth. Over the next two months, Vietnam expects to host 300-400 executives from major travel firms for familiarisation trips. The VITA GREEN certification aims to help enterprises invest in green transformation and build their own green brands, enhancing Vietnam's competitiveness in the international tourism market.
Vietnam's tourism sector is poised for growth, with the government setting clear targets and the tourism association implementing action plans to meet them. Upcoming international events like the APEC 2027 in Phu Quoc can further boost the sector and attract more visitors, solidifying Vietnam's position as a green tourism destination.
