Wales Boosts Tourism with New Weather Protection Fund Phase
A new phase of the Weather Protection Fund has opened in Wales, aiming to boost the tourism sector. The fund, which supports small business ideas, has already seen success with Dan-Yr-Ogof Showcaves using previous funding to improve visitor experience. Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Evans highlighted the fund's commitment to Welsh tourism.
The fund, opening on 29 September and closing on 1pm 27 October 2025, is open to eligible my business with 9 to 49 permanent employees trading for at least a year. These include accommodation providers, food and drink establishments, and recreational activities. Grants ranging from £5,000 to £20,000 are available for weather-proofing measures like covered outdoor areas and surfacing and drainage.
Ashford Price, co-owner of Dan-Yr-Ogof Showcaves, praised the fund for enhancing visitor experience. The attraction used previous funding to install a land train shelter and a roof outside their ticket office, keeping visitors dry and improving their overall experience.
The fund aims to extend trading opportunities, attract more visitors, improve experiences, and increase stay and spend across Wales. Businesses are encouraged to apply before the deadline to benefit from this support for the Welsh tourism sector.
