The Kuban Blacksmithing Festival Celebrates Traditional Crafts in Mezmay Village

The Kuban Blacksmithing Festival, a cherished annual event in the Kuban region of southern Russia, recently took place in Mezmay village from August 8 to 10, under the theme "People of Fire."

This year's festival showcased nearly 100 artisans, who displayed their exceptional skills in pottery, blacksmithing, and decorative arts. The event was organised by Apшерон District's Children's School of Arts and Traditional Crafts, in collaboration with the local Cossack society.

Alexander Vlasov, Vice-Governor and the Ataman of the Kuban Cossack Host, attended the festival. He emphasised the efforts of the Kuban Cossack Host to revive and preserve Cossack culture. The event also welcomed representatives from administration, Cossacks, clergy, public organisations, and unions.

Participants demonstrated unique hand-firing techniques and pottery decoration, attracting culture researchers and Kuban residents. The festival also featured items sent to the SVO (Special Military Operation) zone, showcasing the support and solidarity of the community.

At the closing ceremony, Alexander Vlasov presented honorary certificates to representatives and active participants. The best artisans were selected by members of the Union of Russian Artists.

Traditional crafts receive significant attention at festivals and in daily life in the Kuban Cossack Host. Local societies in the region have skilled artisans in blacksmithing, pottery, leatherwork, and decorative arts. These artisans create remarkable art pieces that continue to preserve and celebrate the rich cultural heritage of the Kuban region.

Despite limited information available about the exact frequency and notable events of the Kuban Blacksmithing Festival since its establishment around 2009, it is clear that this event remains a crucial part of the region's cultural calendar. For more detailed, authoritative information, we recommend consulting official event websites, local cultural archives from the Kuban region, or specialized publications on blacksmithing festivals in Russia.
