The majority of Siberians curb their holiday expenditures on enjoyment, keepsakes, and meals.
In a recent survey conducted among a representative sample of 1500 Russians aged 18 to 65 in cities with a population of over 100,000, it was revealed that a significant number of Siberians are carefully managing their vacation spending. The VTB survey found that 80% of Siberian residents have been disappointed with their entertainment spending during vacations, and 76% partially limit their spending on entertainment, souvenirs, and food.
One-third of Siberian respondents consider overpriced restaurant visits (36%) a wasteful vacation expense, while a significant number (62%) view souvenirs as unnecessary. Spontaneous entertainment expenses (49%) and unnecessary clothing and accessories (49%) also rank high on the list of wasteful vacation expenses.
The survey results suggest that younger Siberian residents are more likely to prioritize spending on supermarkets, transportation, cafes, and restaurants compared to their older counterparts. Lifestyle and social habits play a significant role in this trend, with younger people being more active socially and culturally, leading to increased spending at cafes and restaurants. Younger adults also have higher mobility due to work, education, and social activities, resulting in greater expenditure on transportation services.
Shopping preferences also differ between age groups. Younger residents are more likely to shop at supermarkets for convenience and access to diverse products, reflecting modern consumer behavior. Older people might rely more on traditional markets or self-sufficiency practices.
The global trend towards rising individual empowerment and a growing middle class also contributes to increased discretionary spending among younger populations, driving more consumer spending on lifestyle-related sectors such as dining and transport.
Despite the efforts to control spending, 80% of Siberian respondents have expressed disappointment with their entertainment or sightseeing spending. The survey revealed that only 40% or less of a Siberian's vacation budget is spent on entertainment and excursions, indicating a potential need for more affordable and engaging options for tourists in the region.

Many Siberian residents are disappointed with their travel-related spending on entertainment and souvenirs, as indicated by the VTB survey. The survey also shows that younger Siberians tend to prioritize their lifestyle, such as dining and traveling, which may contribute to their increased spending on travel and leisure activities.
